Story Tellers
The 2024-2025 Story Teller Committee...
A reader lives a thousand lives... a non-reader only lives the one.
Have you ever found yourself disappointed to turn the last page in a book? Does stepping into a book sometimes transport you to another world? Have you been unable to go to sleep until you've read 'just one more chapter?'
Our Key Stage Two Story tellers are helping to bring the magic of a good book to others in our school. Their aim is simple: to develop a love of reading to everyone.
Meeting once every fortnight, Story Tellers promote great oral communication skills by bringing books to life by acting them out - varying their voices to create different characters - and making them interactive through the use of puppets and props. .
They also try to respond to popular requests and are always keen to make new suggestions for our book vending machine.
You will also find them helping out in the school library and outside in our Reading Den.
During our first meeting, we tried to establish our committee by discussing what brought us all together in the first place... A love of books! When asked, what does reading meant to you, the children had some phenomenal responses.
"It brings me a sense of calm whilst inspiring me all at once," Imogen Year 6.
"It gives me a sense of happiness and joy," Nancy, Year 3.
"Reading takes me to a different world," Maisie, Year 5.
We then presented our storytellers with their blue badges to help them be easily identified around the school.
Throughout the year, we will be sharing books with classes with themes. The first theme we will be exploring is "Significant Authors" and all of our books will be chosen from Julia Donaldson's work. We cannot wait to share them with the rest of our school community.
