Holmer Houses

When pupil council suggested that children would like a House System, we didn’t need asking twice!

Using the British Value of democracy, pupils voted on their favourite themes for house names, all of which had been put forward by the children in our school.

Finally, the results were revealed…

Holmer C of E Academy would name their house after the bridges in Hereford: Eign, Wye, Greyfriars Victoria

During their first house meetings, pupils were set the challenge of creating a logo for their house which represented qualities which they considered important. We are sure you will agree that the results are fantastic.

Our house system enables pupils to develop a strong sense of camaraderie and loyalty and furthermore, encourages all pupils to engage with those outside their year group through its vertical system. This gives pupils a sense of belonging, regardless of age and ability and it enables pupils to make a contribution, no matter how small, to a greater whole.

Through the House system pupils are actively encouraged to participate in a wide range of organised, keenly contested, inter-house activities.  These activities range from music to sport, from poster competitions to Lego building and from debating to designing! The full programme of events includes something for everyone and the awarding of an overall House Points ensures that every pupil’s contribution is important and valued.

House Colours

Each house has its own colour. Pupils can wear a t-shirt in the same colour as their house on Sports Day so it's easy for others to spot which house they are in. Our house colours are as follows:

Eign - Red

Wye - Green

Victoria - Yellow

Greyfriars - Blue
