Courageous Advocacy
Inspiring us all to create a better world
“ You are the salt of the earth….you are the light of the world” Matthew 5 13-15
We understand that Courageous Advocacy is the act of speaking out against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of those whose voice is not heard.
We are courageous advocates for the common good, locally, nationally and globally. We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and that at times all people will face challenges that they need help and support in overcoming. We believe that people are worth spending time with, that people need time to grow and need loving attention. We believe in justice. The Christian Gospel says that every person has a unique task to do, with God, and for God, whether they know it or not. We hold and courageously advocate the conviction that there is something mysterious, and potentially wonderful, in everybody. We do our bit to help create a better world.
We work together to ensure of actions make the world a better place through looking at how small actions can make a profound difference. We have looked beyond the local, the current and the fashionable to the global, the long term and the necessary.
Our Christian values ensure that opportunities to discuss the big issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present. We aim to widen children’s horizons and help them to see the positive impact they themselves can have on others worldwide.
In recent years we have carried out a range of projects that aim to help in a small way to create a better world:
From one pupils comment to another “ You don’t know how lucky you are to be able to go to school” a project of supporting a child in South Africa was started. Relating it to the Global Goal of Education for All, the project culminated in supporting a child through SAS foundation to access education.
Well Being Committee have established a mutually beneficial link with a local care home. Music , arts and sports activities have been shared and the link continues to grow, each inspiring each other and finding joy in each others company.
From a group of children being concerned about the amount of food waste being put in the general bins each lunch time, a project was completed which led to food waste being reduced, children encouraged to reduce packaging and food waste being recycled and collected by a local company.
After hearing a relative taking about volunteering in the local food bank, social justice committee wrote to the food bank to ask what items they required. From a collection at the Harvest Festivals, the children then negotiated a discount with a local super market and went and purchased the items requested by the food bank and finally arranging collection.
Additionally our School community supports various local and national charities throughout the year including :
The Little Princess Trust
Children in Need
Comic Relief
St Michaels Hospice
Our Social Justice Committee work hard and come together as a group to tackle local and global issues that they feel passionate about. Through working together, having the confidence to speak out and act on the issues that are important to them, together they are “inspiring us all to create a better world.”
