Welcome to Year 5
The Year 5 team is separated into two classes, which will run parallel and cover the same learning criteria from within the National Curriculum.
The 5AP team is Miss Pollard and the class is supported by teaching assistant Mrs. Michael. 5JP is taught by Mrs. Phillips with teaching assistant Mrs. Lowicka. Mrs Watkins will also be working in Year 5 in the mornings to allow the children to be in 3 groups for Literacy and Maths. Finally, Year 5 are also fortunate to have Mrs Terry and Mrs. Rolfe working with them! As always, within school, we hold high levels of expectations for children to be able to rise to the challenge, whilst valuing their individuality and celebrating achievements.
This term children will have two PE slots so the appropriate school kit should be in school – white t shirt, green shorts, sombre coloured trainers with a change of socks, dark jogging bottoms and a jumper in case of inclement weather. If your child has long hair, it is required to be tied back and pierced ears taped or the earrings removed.
As we are a 'Healthy Living school', please remember that drinks bottles should contain water only and children should bring a healthy snack to be enjoyed at breaktime.
Homework will be set on a Friday, as it is in all Key Stage 2 Year groups and should be handed in by Wednesday the following week. Homework will consist of a set of spellings, a mixed subject sheet and a reading comprehension. Alongside this, children are required to continue their reading each evening for at least 20 minutes, exposing them to a wide range of genres. If you wish to support your child further, please see the subject sections of the school website, where you can find information about termly topics and resources such as Froggy Maths sheets, Book lists and various links to websites for other areas of learning.
Please remember if you have any questions or concerns – the Year 5 door is always open!
