Welcome to Year 3

Class 3J is taught by Mrs. Jackson with Miss Greene teaching on a Monday.  Class 3D is taught by Mr. Davies.

Mrs. Neale  supports class 3D and Mrs. Bunclark supports class 3J. Mrs Godsell supports children within both classes.

P.E.

P.E. is on a Monday and Friday however please ensure that children have their full, named P.E. kit in school at all times. Kit will be sent home half termly to be washed. On P.E. days please make sure earrings are either removed or taped up.

Homework

Revisiting our work at home helps the children to consolidate what we have been learning about, and also enables them to share their learning with you, the parent.  We believe that teaching and learning is a three-way relationship between child, school and parent.  Homework in Year 3 consists of:

  • Homework – Homework will be shared using SEESAW on a Friday and then completed in pink homework book which need to be returned by Wednesday in order that they can be marked and returned by Friday.
  • Spellings – A few minutes practice every day will make a huge difference.  Discuss the spelling rule, play spelling games, how many times can you write the word correctly in 1 minute, spelling races, rainbow writing, make up mnemonics – anything that helps to get those spellings firmly into the brain!
  • Times tables – Times tables are a major focus for Year 3 and 4.  We’ve invested in a subscription to Times Tables Rock Stars which is a super-fun way to practise these skills.  We test times tables through Froggy Maths every Thursday.
  • Reading – reading regularly from a wide range of genres is extremely important, helping open the children to new ideas and knowledge, supporting their imagination and their ability to write well.  Children should be reading at home at least four times per week.  Please record this in their reading record, along with any comments about the discussions you’ve had about what they are reading.  We will be monitoring the amount of reading recorded in journals.
  • Ready Steady Read – We are continuing the very popular reading challenge. Please see the list of books provided (a copy is also on the website) and encourage your child to read and review at least one book per half term for a chance to win a fantastic prize.

Knowledge organisers will be sent home termly. If you wish to know more, please visit the curriculum pages.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please feel free to either grab us quickly at the door at the end of the day, or make an appointment for a chat.
